LONGER SPRING SHACKLES

For the purpose of lowering the loading height of trucks equipped with AA-5560-B 16-leaf rear spring assembly, longer rear spring shackles, AA-5776-BR right hand and AA-5777-BR left hand, have been released for service. (See Fig. 1142) These shackles lower the loading height of the truck 1 1/2” at the center line of the rear axle. They apply to trucks equipped with 16-leaf rear springs only.

To install the long rear spring shackles, remove the rear springs, reverse their position and reinstall them with the longer half of the spring toward the front of the chassis. (See Fig. 1143.) The lubricator fittings at each end of the spring will then point toward the front of the chassis. This change affects the spring shackles only, the spring shackle bolt and nut are not affected.
