To lessen any possibility of oil filtering through the speedometer bearing and working up into the speedometer, a left hand spiral groove is now machined in the shaft of the gear. (See Fig. 1184.) This left hand groove will direct the oil back into the universal joint housing and prevent it working into the shaft casing. This part is serviced in assemblies A-17270-F and G.
