Stopping Leak at Water Pump Shaft

Packing is used in forming a water tight connection around the water pump shaft. Should a water leak develop around the shaft tighten the packing nut. A screwdriver can be used for this purpose as shown in Fig. 415. Do not tighten the nut more than is necessary to stop the leak.
